Article 1. Free and Open Access

  1. The Ogdensburg Public Library provides free access to the internet, public computers, and Wi-Fi for everyone.
    1. Ogdensburg Public Library supports the patron’s right to information, learning, and communication.

Article 2. Internet Content

  • The internet has useful, fun, and educational information—but also things that may be inappropriate or offensive to some users.
    • The library does not control internet content and is not responsible for what the patrons see online.
    • Some computers may have filters, especially on computers used by children.

Article 3. Respectful and Legal Use

You must use computers and Wi-Fi responsibly:

  • No illegal activities or purposes.
    • No harassment, threats, or hate speech.
    • No downloading of pirated content (like illegal movies or software).
    • Do not change computer settings or damage equipment.

Article 4. Privacy

  • The library does not keep records of the patron’s activity, but some websites might.
    • The patron’s screen may be viewed by other patrons.

Article 5. Time Limits & Access

  • Use of computers may have a time limit of two (2) hours, especially during busy hours.
    • Wi-Fi is available during library hours.
    • Save any work on personal USB or cloud storage—files are erased after each session.

Article 6. Children and Families

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for their children’s internet use.
    • We encourage families to talk about safe and appropriate internet use.

Article 7. Violations

  • Breaking the rules may lead to loss of computer or internet privileges.
    • Serious offenses may be reported to law enforcement.
